SUCCESSFUL ADOPTION STORIES
page 1
I've been volunteering at Knoah's Ark for several years and people often ask me how can an animal lover work with abandoned animals? I can happily and honestly answer, the success stories and pictures people send me of the dogs they adopted from us, make it more than worth it. It's truly a blessing to be able to be part of this wonderful process that transforms the lives of these animals.
So if you adopted a dog from us and this new member of your family has brought you joy, please e-mail us a few pictures and tell us how you and they are doing!

Rascal:We adopted Rascal in November 2003 from one of your events at a Petcock. He is now 3 and a wonderful dog. He went to puppy school when we first got him and he learned fast. He is a wonderful dog who loves to be with mom and dad. He loves for his boys to race him around the backyard. He goes camping with us and gets to run in the wild. He is very obedient and always keeps us in sight. We even bought a camper so he can go on vacations with us. He is a mama's boy and a real treat to have. We crate trained him and I must say that is a MUST. It gave him a safe spot that was only his! He was very nervous when we first got him and separation anxiety would make him crazy (diarrhea nervous!). Helpful hints for new moms: 1-get a crate. they need a spot to call their own. 2-Take a vacation from work so you can spend a full week at home with them 24/7 so they can adjust. If you do have to leave them, have them in a fenced backyard. If they are nervous they will tear up your house while you are out! 3-Obedience training. So everyone in your house is using the same commands. It will calm your dog faster. 4-Remember: they have been in shelters, they come from unknown background before the shelters, they may not know what LOVE is. Give them constant unconditional love and they will be your best friend forever. Keep in mind they may have no idea what a home is. But dogs do live in the now, so if you provide the love they will soak it up!
Nati & Palmer: Adopted July 2006: Just wanted to send you a couple of pictures and thank you so much. We absolutely love our new kids. Nati and Palmer are doing great, they have learned a lot in the last week and a half, I'm so proud of them. We can't imagine not having them around now. They have different, but wonderful personalities. Palmer is definitely the older, more laid back, mellow kind of guy. He plays well with Nati when she wants to play, but doesn't always want to share the toys with her. Nati is true little puppy, investigates everything, craves our attention and love, and loves to play, when she's not napping of course. They have both learned to heel on leashes and we go for walks every night. We truly love them so much, thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!
Daisy: Adopted July 2006: Daisy requested that I let you all know that she is doing GREAT in her new home with her new mom and dad, Markus and Dawn. Daisy is the ultimate QUEEN. She has her mom wrapped around her paw and at time she has dad, however not all the time! :-) Daisy is definately a daddys girl, always listening and ready to impress. With mom, she just goes with the flow, she knows mom gives in to puppy dog eyes. :-) Daisy goes to the doggie park just about every day and steals the show. She runs and visits EVERYONE, anything for someone to pet her!! When the park is empty she makes certain that the area is clear of birds, etc. There are more pictures of Daisy, then of ANYTHING in the house...its quite funny and the honest truth. Thank you so much for saving Daisy from her life on the streets and posting her on the internet. She is EVERYTHING we could EVER ask for in a daughter! YES, shes human. :-) So have no fears about her placement, she is the BESTEST bestest bestest place ever
Porter: Adopted July 2006: It's been exactly one week since Porter came to live us. Words can not express the absolute happiness that Porter has brought to our home. It's as though he has lived here his entire life, he fits right in! He and the Beagles are getting along just fine, although they are still little wary of his size. I call him my "Gentle Giant". We could not have asked for more of a beautiful, loving, well behaved, sweet, easy going dog. Our only regret is that we didn't bring Porter home a few months ago when we first met him. I have enclosed a few pictures of Porter relaxing on the patio, however, his favorite place is inside on the couch, in the air conditioning. I will continue to send more pictures, as I could tell that Porter was very loved out at the Ranch. With our most sincere gratitude...THANK YOU
Frazier: Adopted June 2006: Thought I'd give you an update on Frazier. He's a wild man. The first day here (sat). He was, of course, afraid of everything. The second day he was holding his tail straight out and pushing his weight around. Today my Springer let him know that yes, her food is off limits and wow do I love playing with you. He's a smart pup, figured out the doggie door in less than a day and is already figuring out that he's Frazier. He does love biting himself in the full length mirror and is working on understanding that outside is the potty though he's peeing on the carpet at least once a day. Not bad for 3 days here and of course it happens when we're not focused on him. He still feeling like he should be on demand feeding, but he's coming along. Ali (our Springer) and he think wrestling is the best and Mitch is now in the other room trying to convince them that it's bed time with play time ending. We'll send updates and give him your kisses. Thanks, Beth & Mitch T
Sweetie: Adopted April 2006: I thought you'd like to see how Sweetie looks now that she has been clipped ... she's pretty cute. She is scheduled to be spayed on Wed. Our trip home was uneventfull! Sweetie was a good girl. When we got home & put her outside she was really scared until Hogan joined her. He let her know that we were OK and Sweetie has adjusted quite well. The first couple of nights were an experience. She must have gotten lonely and about 1:30AM she started howling ... after the 3rd night of this, we decided to go easy on our neighbors and brought he inside. So far she's been great, she sleeps thru the night and hasn't had an accident! We keep her confined to the bathroom, in case she does, but she can see us and Hogan, so she's not lonely anymore. That's it for now, Maryellen
Charlie: Adopted February 2006:“We wanted to update you on Charlie boy. He's doing extremely well, very happy and comfortable, from the moment we left with him actually. We were surprised to know that he's completely house trained. We tried to crate train at first, but now he's moved his way into our bed. . .which is great by us. He's also become very protective of us, when people come around our place he growls and barks a little. Aside from that, he rarely barks. We go on about 7 or so walks a day, and he loves it. We've taken him to the park and he loves to fetch his tennis balls, but running seems to be the most fun. He's completely at home with us and he is without a doubt a part of our family. We have realized that he does need more space to roam and run, so we're moving earlier than expected. We're leaving for Boulder Colorado at the beginning of April. We're looking forward to finding a home that works well for all of us. We absolutely adore Charlie and cannot imagine our lives without him. Thank you so much for doing what you do and for Charlie of course! We've attached some pictures of him...he looks great. His coat is so smooth and shiny after two great baths. He also loves to be brushed and groomed. . .very cute.
Vicki: Adopted December 2005: Hello all, We wanted to update you on our new baby that we adopted from you. Here is Vicki (was Sadie) with her Ralph. He named her Vicki because she is a Vixen (female Fox). She loves when Ralph gets down on the floor to have a discussion with her about things like steeling his socks. She loves to snuggle up to Ralph on the bed at night and get a tummy rub - especially after her hysterectomy. We had our own vet see her so she has all her shots and care. Mom does occassionally make Vicki get down on her own doggy bed (next to our bed) so she and Ralph have some space. However, she is a "sneeky peet" and gets up between us after we go to sleep. The house boss (Mookie our cat), trained Albert as a puppy, and he has already gotten Vicki under control with his cat lessons. Vicki is full of life, and she loves to play with her new Lab Retriever buddy - Albert. (Named that because he was found in a dumpster behind an Albertson's at 3 weeks old.) Albert is addicted to his "squeekle ball", but Vicki loves to tease him by steeling it right out of his mouth. She's touch, and shows no fear - a true redhead just like her mom Brunie. They have a morning routine at the kitchen table, when mom puts their collars on, and has them go through several "behaviors" with treat rewards. Vicki already knows her daily routines. She is finally convinced that she has a real family forever. We told the fur babies that we would take them for a ride one day to see Vicki's old friends. I wish I had room for all of them! Will you be back at Wakimoto's in the near future? I hope you like the photos.” Brunie and Ralph and of course - Vicki, Albert, and Mookie
Angel:“I got Angel (you had named her Dela) about 3 years ago. Vets had said that she had distemper, and wasn't sure she was going to make it. After an extra dose of antibiotics she got better! My daughter and I loved Angel with all our hearts. Poor baby had been through so much, living on her own, and time in the pound, it wasn't until 6 months before she actually barked. I think she wanted to know that she was safe and with a loving family! I was so greatful to Knoahs Ark for saving her!!!! She listened, she was potty trained, and so lovable. People who saw her loved how cute she was, and how soft her fur was. If you'd go to pet her she'd immediately roll over and smile, showing all her pretty whites! She was a great dog, with such personality! We had a girl scout camp out in our back yard. It was so windy and nasty outside, but Angel stood outside the tents in the wind to protect those girls. She loved cats!!! We couldn't have cats, because I was allergic, but we fed the stray cats, and every night, Angel couldn't wait for the cats to come eat. She just looked out the window and smiled and wagged her tail! We just moved into a new house, and she had her first adventure on stairs....she ran up so quick, but wasn't sure about coming down. After the first time....she was a pro! We called her our little mountain goat. There was a small waterfall and spa in the back yard, and she would climb up those rocks of the waterfall like a little mountain goat and try to look into the neighbors back yard. She was always happy!!!! Unfortunately Angel went to doggy heaven. I think all she wanted was a good family, which she got. She is so desperately missed! She touched our hearts forever!”
Sascha (Lady): Adopted February 2006: “Well.....I’ve made it to Kingman. I like my new home but it takes a little time to get used to it, ya know? My new dad took me to Petco and we went shopping. I got a new dish and I’ve got a lot of toys. Then we went for a walk. I explored my new back yard. well I’m kinda tired now so I’ll say good night but here's some pictures my new dad took of me and some of my new dads friend "Dutch"” sincerely lady

Boccelli: Adopted June 2005: First of all I want to thank Joan for the nice things she does for all the animals. I am so happy we adopted Boccelli, because he has become a part of our lives. We love him so much; he is a nice, kind, and loving dog that every family should have. I am fortunate to have him. It started when my daughter was volunteering for the shelter. She used to go visit Boccelli everyday when he was at the store for a few hours to walk and play with him. She would tell me that he is so happy to see her, his tail would wag like crazy. Even though she was tired, she knew that is was her duty to take care of him and he needed her love and attention. So one day, she told me that she wishes she could take him home but she couldn’t because she had 3 dogs of her own. When I heard about how much he needed love and attention, I felt that I had to help too. I told Jennifer to take Boccelli home to me. I had 5 dogs, so one more won’t make a difference, especially if I could give him a happy life. So she did. When I first saw him, I felt so sorry for him that I cried because he had these sores/holes in his arms. I had my TV on and he stared at it for a good 15 minutes because he never saw a TV and was amazed. Then all the dogs went over to greet him and tried to play with him but he was scared and hid in the corner. So, I went over to him to give him a hug, kiss, and a treat. I wanted to make him feel that this was his home. Now, he lies on the couch during the day and sleeps in our bed at night. He has become so content and brave. He kisses and welcomes everyone who comes over. We took him to the Vet for his sores and he told us that it a type of nervous disorder and he licks and bites his arms when he is nervous or bored. The only thing you could do is make him feel comfortable and give him love. Now his sores are getting much better because he has no time to be bored and doesn’t feel scared or nervous anymore. Once again, we are so thankful for Joan saving his life and passing him on to us. Keep up the good work and may God bless you and everyone involved. We know God is watching over Boccelli and all the other dogs. We will always pray for them. People should open their hearts and adopt as many dogs as they can.
Hawkeye: Adopted November 2005: “I wanted to give you an update on Ray aka Hawkeye! He is doing very well and is enjoying his life immensely. He loves to have a ball thrown to him and he sleeps in bed with us each night. His personality is hilarious and he enjoys barking at the cats that wander onto our block wall(and then run away quickly) and he is just so affectionate. We are going to put him into obedience class this month as it will help him calm down a bit and learn to walk well on a leash.” Elizabeth April 7, 06: Hope you are well. Ray aka Hawkeye is the happiest doggie on earth! He has adjusted very well and made excellent progress with us. He now can sit and shake a paw for his treats (of which there are many) His coat is full and glossy and he has put on some weight and grown a few more inches. We love him so much and each day we see more of his hilarious characteristics come out. And boy...what a watch dog he is! One of the ladies I work with adopted a dog from you and she is thrilled also! Thanks for all you do.
Rigley: Adopted December 2005: “Thanks for a great dog and friend. Rigley has been learning everyday. He lets me know when he wants to go outside and he even went 6 hours today by himself! He peed on the paper and didn’t poop. A miracle in 4 days. Hope you enjoy the pictures.”
